Glucosamine (English)
Glucosamine is found in the human body wherein it maintains the health of cartilage -a rubbery tissue that cushions bones at joints. The naturally occurring sugar comprises of key building block of joint tissue, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. An amino sugar, the chemical compound is also found in nature like the shells of shellfish. Commercially produced by the hydrolysis of shellfish exoskeletons or by fermenting grain such as corn and wheat,Glucosamine is available in different forms like glucosamine sulphate, glucosamine hydrochloride and N-acetyl glucosamine. Here we discuss some benifit and uses of glucosamine. (1)Cure for joint pains:-It is deemed helpful in the treatment of arthritis ,osteoarthritis, joint pain, inflammation, immobility and damaged and eroded cartilage. It helps ease joint pain, maintain and restore healthy joint performance and helps the body to repair damaged and eroded cartilage while lubricating the joints and stimulating synovial fluid production. For osteoarthritis, taking glucosamine sulphate, can provide some relief, especially in the knees. As it may take four to eight weeks to provide pain relief, one may need to take pain medication for the pain -flare up,Osteoarthritis patients may take glucosamine sulphate 1500mg once daily or 500 mg three times daily ,either alone or together with 400 mg of chondroitin sulphate two or three times daily. To reduce pain caused due to rheumatoid arthritis ,research suggest oral use of glucosamine hydrochloride is effective. It may not help with an improvement in inflammation or the number of painful or swollen joints. (2) How to consume:Commonly, glucosamine is often consumed in the form of capsule, but it is also available in liquid form as glucosamine sulphate .As a biological chemical, it forms cushioning ingredients of the joint fluids and surrounding tissues. The absorption of glucosamine is much faster when taken in liquid form rather than the tablet form, make more ingredients available to the body in shorter time. (3) Who can consume? It is advisable for pregnant and breastfeeding women to avoid the drug.Research has suggested that glucosamine may raise blood sugar in people with diabetes. However, more research shows that glucosamine does not affect blood sugar control in people with type 2diabetes.While it may be safe for most people with diabetes, it is better to closely monitor their blood sugar. The same goes for patients with blood pressure problem. If you are consuming glucosamine, one must monitor blood pressure levels daily. People who have shellfish allergies must Consult their provider before using glucosamine as their is evidence that glucosamine products can cause an allergic reaction in people sensitive to shellfish and not the shell, there is chance that the shell used to produce glucosamine may be contaminated with the meat, resulting in an allergic reaction. While there are several benefits of glucosamine ,it is always better to Consult your doctor before taking it.
