China plane crash live updates: Xi orders probe into plane crash; casualties unknown

A China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737-800 with 132 people on board crashed in mountains in southern China on a domestic flight on Monday following a sudden descent from cruising altitude. Stay with us for latest updates.
China's Civil Aviation Administration of China said an emergency team had been sent to the crash site. Media cited a rescue official as saying the plane had completely disintegrated. A fire sparked by the crash destroyed bamboo and trees before being put out.
The US Federal Aviation Administration says it was ready to assist with China's investigation if asked'
UN has taken note of reports about the crash of a China Eastern Airlines flight and UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his condolences to the victims and the Chinese government, reports Chinese state media.
Thanks to Prime Minister @narendramodi and Indian friends for your prayers and sympathy for the loss in the air crash. Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out search & rescue efforts & proper settlement of aftermath. Mourn for the victims, deep condolences to their families," Chinese ambassador to India Sun Weidong said.
Hopes to find the survivors among the 132 people travelling by the crashed Chinese aircraft in the thick forests in the southern Guangxi province on Monday receded as the night fell making efforts by scores of rescuers difficult. State television showed teams of rescuers armed with search lights scurrying through the sprawling area in the forests on the remote mountainous area Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as darkness enveloped the forest region.

All these 737-800 NG models have a Horizontal Trim Runaway potential. An un-commanded Trim Motor going to Full Down Trim, similar to the 737 Max 8 MCAS issue is a real possibility. The Horizontal Trim Motor has two modes, AutoPilot and Manual by Pilot controls on the Control Column. A Runaway full down Trim is very difficult to overcome. The Cutoff Switches can remove electrical power, but this would leave a high nose down Trim. This would be impossible to Manually wind back to neutral due to high aerodynamic forces on the Horizontal Stabiliser.
What People Say
if the wings didn't break off then it's really suspicious as to why it didn't glide and instead took a vertical nose dive. I hope this wasn't another case of the pilots mass suicide similar to the Malaysian flight MH370

[3[This is how most people imagine plane crashes but how they actually never happened before. Most crashes happen during take-off or landing (like the recent Boeing 737 max cases or Concorde). Even if all engines fail, the plane wont drop like a stone. The engines are only necessary to gain or maintain altitude. Without engines the plane will glide with a ratio of distance to height of 18 to 1. That means with a travel altitude of 10km it can reach any positions within 180 km distance.

Structural cracks have been discovered in 38 737 NG's, or Next Generation jets. The cracks were found in inspections ordered by the Federal Aviation Administration a week ago. According to Boeing, as of Wednesday there had been 810 planes inspected, and 38 jets require repairs. That is roughly 5% of the planes that were inspected. The cracks are on what is known as a "pickle fork," a part of the fuselage that helps to attach the wings to the aircraft. The problem was discovered when some used passenger jets were being stripped down for conversion to freighter jets, according to a person familiar with the problem. Boeing notified the FAA, which then ordered the inspections.

China plane crash: Search teams find flight's black box

Chinese aviation officials announced the finding at a press conference on Wednesday, after two days of searching.

Authorities are still yet to report the number of dead, but it is feared none of the 132 people on board survived the high-altitude crash.

Investigators still do not know why the plane plummeted out of the sky.

Mao Yanfeng, director of the civil aviation accident investigation department, told reporters there had been "no dangerous weather" on the plane's route at the time of the crash.

He added the plane's crew and air traffic control had maintained normal communication until the plane's sudden drop in altitude.

Chinese passenger jet was DELIBERATELY crashed into a mountain - killing all 132 on board - by either a pilot or someone who managed to access the cockpit, black box data suggests
