The news of the conquest of Spain by Napoleon Bonaparte and the resulting political disruption spread across the entirety of Argentina. Argentina saw its chance to be rid Spain of its dominance. A fierce revolution broke out, which was later known as the May Revolution.
Monday the 9th of July, 2012 is a local Independence Day holiday here in Buenos Aires. The day is intended for reflection to commemorate the political autonomy of Argentina and the birth of what is known today as one of the most naturally beautiful and culturally proud countries in Latin America. Many people leave the city for Tigre, greater Buenos Aires Province, or other local travel destinations to spend the long 3 day weekend with friends and family enjoying traditional Argentine food and other cultural pastimes.
