 Bhojpur is situated on the bank of Betwa River32 km from Bhopal, the state capital of Madhya Pradesh India.  The site is located on sandstone ridge typical of central India. ,next to the deep gorge through which the Betwa River flows.Two large dams constructed of massive hammer dressed stones,were built in the eleventh century     to divert and block the betwa,so creating a large lake.

            Bhojpur takes its name from king Bhoja[reg.c 1000-1055 CE]the most celebrated ruler of the Parmara dynasty.

Description Of Temple


The Bhojeshwar Temple is an incomplete Hindu temple in Bhojpur village Of Madhya Pradesh, India. Dedicated to shiva, it houses a 7.5 feet (2.3)high lingam in its sanctum. The temple's construction is believed to have started in the 11th century during the raign of Parmar Bhoja.


Why is Bhojeshwar Temple incomplete?

Abandoned construction of Bhojeshwar Temple, as per norms of Hindu spiritual practices damaged idols of God and Goddesses aren't worshipped in temples. And thus it remained incomplete for long with water seeping in through the roof on to the lingam during rains.



Legends Related to temple

(1)Some saint were meditating near the shivling. Suddenly due to electric fall they were come inside the shiv ling.

(2)It was scheduled to built overnight but was not built.

(3)Hindu Scripture Mahabharata relates to this place because Pandavas built shivling during exile tobe able to worship.

(4)Parmar king Bhoja who was known for his command over sword and pen. He was killed in the temple by Chahmana ruler as he never used to bring sword in the temple. From worship was stopped here
