3 reasons IU basketball lost to Northwestern: Hoosiers come up short with 5 players suspended
EVANSTON, Ill. — An IU lineup torn apart by five player suspensions and injury to a key bench player led to a 59-51 loss to Northwestern in Evanston that will stain IU’s tournament resume regardless.
IU had seven scholarship players available at Welsh-Ryan Arena in front of a crowd that made it feel like essentially a home game. But IU didn’t have enough bodies, and in the second half, it showed.

Here are three reasons the Hoosiers lost Tuesday night:
IU had 5 players suspended
Rumors circulated before the game about the status of a group of IU players potentially being suspended. On his radio show before the game, IU’s play-by-play broadcaster Don Fischer said IU was going to be "shorthanded."
That they were, with starters Parker Stewart and Xavier Johnson suspended by coach Mike Woodson as well as key bench players in Tamar Bates, Michael Durr and Khristian Lander. That’s on top of an injury that has kept Rob Phinisee out the past few games.
