Indy 500-

The Indianapolis 500, also formally known as the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, or simply the Indy 500, is an annual automobile race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, United States, an enclave suburb of Indianapolis.

Length: 2.5 mi (4.0 km)
Most wins (driver): A. J. Foyt (4); Al Unser (4); Rick Mears (4); Hélio Castroneves (4)
Jimmie Johnson's first Indianapolis 500 ended in disappointing fashion Sunday, with the former NASCAR star crashing on the 194th lap of the 200-lap race. Johnson's crash had a massive ripple effect on the race, with debris from his No. 48 car resulting in a red flag with just four laps remaining.
How many laps and miles is the Indy 500? The “500” part of the name refers to the length of the race in miles. The drivers cover that distance by running 200 laps of the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.

Marcus Ericsson won the 106th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, capturing the race in a frantic finish after a Jimmie Johnson crash caused a red flag with four laps to go. Read more.
